Part 4 - Define & Use A Region - continued.
Set the Define/Modify Region mode to "Polygon (X=Y)". Set the Polygon Type to "Pentagon (5)". Click on the "Geometry..." button. There are two basic coordinate systems in VS3D - Grid Coordinates and Data Coordinates. The current grid measures 600 by 600 points, so the grid coordinates range from 0 to 599 in X and Y. This is currently mapped to the previously-entered data coordinates of -3 to 3 in X and Y. So a data coordinate of 0,0 is at the center of the grid. In the "Polygon X=Y Geometry" dialog, set the Coordinate System to "Data Units". Enter a center point of 0,2. Set the radius point to 0,2.2 . Click on "Ok" to create a pentagon region with a radius of 0.2 data units.

In the Define/Modify Region "Modify" drop-down menu, select "Angular Replicate...". Leave the Coordinate System set to "Data Units". Set the "Pivot Center (X,Y)" to 0, 0. Set the "Replication Angle (Degrees CCW)" to 20. Set the "Number of Copies" to 17. Click on "Ok".

The pentagon region is now replicated 17 times in a circular fashion, each 20 degrees apart. Set the region "Z" height to 1. Select "Plateau" from the Sculpt menu.
