Part 4 - Define & Use A Region - continued.
Change the Region Define/Modify mode to "Freehand Lasso". Click and drag the left mouse button on the sculpture grid to freehand draw a small arrowhead. Set the region "Z" height to 1.0 . Select "Bulge" from the Sculpt menu. Change the sculpt mode from equal ("=") mode to plus-minus ("+--") mode. Select "Chisel" from the Sculpt menu. Note how the chisel height has been added to the previous bulge, due to the "+--" mode. Click on "Reset" to delete the region.

Change the Region Define/Modify mode to "Contour". Move the cursor over the arrowhead, watching the Z Height readout. When you find a point that is about 1.0 high, click on it. A new contour region is created with a perimeter that follows the contour of the existing surface. You can also click on the "Geometry..." button to type in the contour height value, rather than clicking on a point to specify the height. Switch from "Region" mode to "Hammer" mode. Click on "Reset" to erase the existing hammer tip. Set the hammer tip draw mode to "Polygon X#Y", and set the Polygon Type to "Circle (N)". The "Polygon X#Y" (X not equal to Y) mode allows polygon hammer tips that are scaled differently in X and Y. In the case of a "circle" polygon, an ellipse can be drawn. Click and drag the left mouse button in the hammer tip window to draw a medium-sized horizontal ellipse. Set the Hammer Blow "Z" height to 0.5 . Apply a hammer blow to the sculpture grid, partially overlapping the contour region boundary.

Note that the hammer blow only has effect inside the region ! This is an important capability of VS3D. Switch back to "Region" mode. Use a "Freehand Lasso" region to circle the "VS3D" letters and the arrowhead. Set the region "Z" height to 0. Select "Plateau" from the Sculpt menu. The surface is again completely flat. Click on "Reset" to delete the region.
