VScad3 Resources Menu
2.2.1 Layout.
"Resources / Layout..." : Selecting this menu will bring up the "View Layout" dialog which controls the page size and view position(s) on the page. When VScad3 is started, by default there is only one view ("View 1") and it covers the entire page. The "View Layout" dialog has several settings:
-
"Units" : Choose "in" (inches) or "cm" (centimeters). This setting specifies the units for the page size and view position(s).
-
"Window Size (pixels)" : Enter the desired X and Y pixel dimensions for the geometry view window. When a screen capture or depth surface file is exported, or when exporting a relief surface to VS3D, the size of the geometry window (in pixels) will determine the size of the exported image (in pixels) or the exported relief surface (in grid points). If the main VScad3 window is resized using the host computer's window manager, then the geometry view window will be resized (and redrawn) accordingly. The maximum allowed window dimensions are limited by the maximum (X) dimension of the display screen.
-
"Page Size" : Enter the desired X and Y page (paper) size in inches (or cm). Note that many printers are not able to print all the way to the edge of the paper. If the page is to be printed on 11x8.5 inch paper, for example, it is often beneficial to set the "Page Size" to slightly less than that (such as 10.5x8) so that the whole "page" will fit in the printable area on the paper.
-
"Border Size" : Enter the desired X and Y width of the border. The border width will determine how far from the edge of the page the view edges will be placed.
-
"Margin Size" : Enter the desired X and Y width of the margin. The margin width will determine the spacing between view edges on the page. This setting has no meaning if there is only one view specified.
-
"Views" : Set this to the desired number of views (from one to four views are possible). Selecting the number of views will also update the positions of the view(s) using defaults based upon the page, border, and margin sizes.
- "Background Color" : This controls the color of the background. The "background" is the area, if any, in the geometry view window that is not covered by the page. If the aspect ratio of the page does not match the aspect ratio of the geometry view window, then a background fill area will be shown to the right, or above, the page.
- "Page Color" : This controls the color of the page. The default color is "Gray" to help see the view position(s). Before printing, it may be advisable to set the page color to "White". If a view covers the entire page, then none of the page color will be visible.
