VScad3 File Menu

2.1.5 Export continued.

"File / Export to VS3D..." : This will calculate a depth surface relief in the same manner as the "File / Export => Depth Surface..." menu. After the depth surface is calculated, Virtual Sculptor (VS3D) is started (if not already running) and the depth surface is automatically loaded into VS3D as a surface sculpture. If VS3D was not already running, the dimensions of the resulting VS3D sculpture grid (in grid points) will be twice the size of the VScad3 display window (in pixels), and the data scales from VScad3 are automatically set up in VS3D. If VS3D was already running, then the VS3D "Import CAD Relief" dialog will appear.

If the VScad3 geometry view fills the entire VScad3 display window, then the dialog has only two settings listed below. For information on setting the VScad3 view position(s) within the VScad3 display window, see VScad3 "Resources / Layout..." (Section 2.2.1A).

  • "Insert on Layer" : This determines which layer to insert the height values on.
  • "Insert Mode" : This setting determines how imported surface heights are assigned to the existing sculpture grid.
"Load" - the imported relief replaces the existing sculpture grid, and the data scales from VScad3 are automatically set up in VS3D.
    "
Overwrite" - the imported data overwrites the current sculpture grid on the selected layer, and the position of the imported surface is determined by the VScad3 data coordinates and the current VS3D data scales.
    "
Merge" - similar to "Overwrite" mode, except that the imported data heights are added to the existing sculpture grid heights.

If the VScad3 geometry view does not fill the entire VScad3 display window, then the dialog has five settings listed below.

  • "Insert on Layer" : This determines which layer to insert the height values on.
  • "Insert Mode" : This setting determines how imported surface heights are assigned to the existing sculpture grid.
    "
Overwrite" - the imported data overwrites the current sculpture grid on the selected layer.
    "
Merge" - similar to "Overwrite" mode, except that the imported data heights are added to the existing sculpture grid heights.
  • "Sizing" : This field determines how the depth surface is mapped to sculpture grid points. The default setting is "One Pixel per Grid Point". The other choice is "Resize to Fit", which causes the depth surface to be re-sampled to the current sculpture grid dimensions.
  • "Horizontal Justification" and "Vertical Justification" : These settings determine where the imported data is merged with, or overwritten on, the existing sculpture grid. The justification settings only apply when the "Sizing" mode is "One Pixel per Grid Point".
