1.6.4 Special Rendering.

"Settings..." : This button will bring up the "Special Rendering Settings" dialog. This dialog is used to control the settings for subsequent metallic (coin-like) rendering of the sculpture surface.

  • "Predefined" : This drop-down menu has choices for predefined materials (silver, nickel, copper, brass, and gold).

  • "Fill Outside Region With" : This selection controls what to render in areas that are outside the current region. Possible choices are "Nothing" (don't mask off the areas outside the region), or "Black", "Gray" or "White" (the areas outside the current region will be masked off with the specified color).

  • "Main Light Vector" : This controls the direction (position) of the main light source. This can be operated in the same fashion as the regular sculpture Light Vector control.

  • "Red, Green, Blue" : These three slider bars control the color (intensity) of the main light. At least one of them should normally be set to 100%.

  • "Secondary Light Vector" : This controls the direction (position) of the secondary light source. This can be operated in the same fashion as the regular sculpture Light Vector control.

  • "Red, Green, Blue" : These three slider bars control the color (intensity) of the secondary light.

  • "Coordinate System" : This can be set to Grid Units or Data Units.

  • "Radial Center" : This controls the position (in Data or Grid coordinates) of the center of the radial highlights.

  • "Field Layer" : This controls which layer of the sculpture surface to use as the "field". The field is the "background" on which sculpture elements are placed (in relief against the field). The field is usually flat, but it can also be curved. The best rendering results are obtained when all sculpture elements are above the field. For example, on a coin all the design elements (portrait, lettering, etc.) are raised above the field.

  • "Field Polishing %" : This setting controls the apparent polishing of the field. A value of 100% will result in a mirrored (black) field, like that seen on a proof coin. A value of 0% indicates no polishing of the field, and as a result, the radial highlights will not be diminished anywhere.

"Render Coin" : Clicking on this button will render the sculpture surface using all the Special Rendering settings. The rendered coin-like image is transient. The next time the sculpture surface is redrawn, it will revert back to the matte gray appearance. Note that it is possible, after rendering as a coin, to save a screen capture image via the main "File / Export => Screen Capture" menu.
