VS3D Region Mode The "Region" is a selected area (or group of selected "islands") where it is desired to perform sculpting operations. For example, if a region is defined and visible, then hammering has no effect outside the region. The region is drawn on the sculpture grid as red outlines. The solid outline shows which sculpture grid points are fully within the region. The dashed outline shows which sculpture grid points are halfway inside the region. The dotted outline shows the farthest extents of the region. Normally, all three outlines are close together. But in cases of region smoothing or feathering, the outlines can be spread apart. The steps to create a Region depend upon the "Define/Modify Region" mode. "Freehand Lasso" : Click and drag the left mouse button in the sculpture grid window to lasso an area. When the mouse button is released, the area perimeter is completed and the enclosed area is added to (or removed from) the current region. "Freehand Open" : Click and drag the left mouse button in the sculpture grid window to draw a freehand line. When the mouse button is released, the line is added to (or removed from) the current region. "Polyline Lasso" : Click the left mouse button (multiple times) in the sculpture grid window to enter perimeter line segments. Click the right mouse button to finish and close the perimeter, and the enclosed area is added to (or removed from) the current region. "Polyline Open" : Click the left mouse button (multiple times) in the sculpture grid window to enter line segments. Click the right mouse button to finish, and the line segments are added to (or removed from) the current region. "Spline Lasso" : Click the left mouse button (multiple times) in the sculpture grid window to enter perimeter line segments. Click the right mouse button to finish and close the perimeter. A smooth spline curve is then fitted through the points, and the enclosed area is added to (or removed from) the current region. "Spline Open" : Click the left mouse button (multiple times) in the sculpture grid window to enter line segments. Click the right mouse button to finish. A smooth spline curve is then fitted through the points, and the the spline is added to (or removed from) the current region. "Polygon (X=Y)" : Click and drag the left mouse button in the sculpture grid window to draw an area as a standard polygon. The clicked point will be the polygon center point. In this mode, "X=Y" means that the X dimension of the polygon equals the Y dimension (so, for example, squares and circles are possible, but rectangles and ellipses are not). While dragging, the polygon can be rotated by moving the mouse in a circular path. The number of sides the polygon has can be set via the "Polygon Type" drop-list. Selected polygon types can have from 3 sides (triangle) to N sides (circle). When the mouse button is released, the polygon is added to (or removed from) the current region."Polygon (X#Y)" : Similar to "Polygon (X=Y)" except that the X dimension may not be equal to the Y dimension, so that rectangles, ellipses, etc. are possible. In this mode, polygons can not be rotated while dragging. |
