VS3D Edit Menu

1.2.2 Coordinate Scales, Grid Resize/Crop.

"Edit / Coordinate Scale..." : This menu choice brings up the "Data Coordinate Scales" dialog. The "X Data Range (Min,Max)" and "Y Data Range (Min,Max)" fields each hold two numbers (separated by a comma or space). These fields specify the physical dimensions (in inches or mm) of the sculpture grid. The Data scales can be displayed as rulers by clicking on the "Show Rulers" button (this button is visible when the main mode is set to "Display").

"Edit / Resize Grid..." : This will bring up the "Resize Grid Dimensions" dialog with two fields for setting the X and Y dimensions of the sculpture grid (in grid points). If the grid is resized (resampled) to a smaller size and then resized back up the original size, then some resolution may be lost. If the aspect ratio of the new grid dimensions does not match the aspect ratio of the original grid dimensions, then the grid will be "stretched" or "squashed" in X or Y. The minimum allowed grid dimension is 161. If the specified grid dimensions (in grid points) are greater than the display screen dimensions (in pixels), then a warning message is displayed in the Resize Grid confirmation dialog (which will appear after "Ok" is clicked in the Resize Grid Dimensions" dialog). Great care should be taken when setting the grid dimensions. The application may bog down if the grid dimensions are large and sufficient memory (RAM) is not available.

"Edit / Expand/Crop Margins..." : The grid can be expanded or cropped using this menu choice. The "Expand/Crop Grid Dimensions" dialog has fields for shifting each edge of the sculpture grid (left, right, top, bottom) by the specified number of grid points. Negative values shift an edge to the left or down. Positive values shift an edge to the right or up. For example, to expand the sculpture grid by 10 grid points on all four sides, enter -10 for the left and bottom edges, and 10 for the right and top edges. The "Margin Value (Z)" field specifies the Z height to assign to any expanded grid margins. The minimum allowed grid dimension is 161. If the specified grid dimensions (in grid points) are greater than the display screen dimensions (in pixels), then a warning message is displayed in the Expand/Crop Grid confirmation dialog (which will appear after "Ok" is clicked in the Expand/Crop Grid Dimensions" dialog). Great care should be taken when manipulating the grid dimensions. The application may bog down if the resulting grid dimensions are large and sufficient memory (RAM) is not available.
