VS3D File Menu

1.1.8 Print, Laser, Preferences, Restore Defaults, Quit.

"File / Print..." : This will print the current contents of the sculpture view. The printer control dialog will appear. The printer settings can be modified via the "Properties" (or similar) button. Different types of printers have different properties. The printed image will be scaled as large as possible to fit the chosen paper size.

"File / Laser..."
: This menu is only active when a Cutting Protocol has been started with the "Machine Type" set to "Laser". Selecting this menu will apply the currently-defined laser tool path and send it to a laser cutting/engraving/etching device. See the Machine Mode Cutting Path (Section 1.7.3A-F) for more information.

"File / Preferences..." : Selecting this menu will bring up a dialog for setting the VS3D preferences. The "Select VS3D Preferences" dialog has five settings:

  • "Start Program" : This setting determines which program is started first when the program icon is double-clicked - VS3D or VScad3.

  • "Hammer XY Grid Size" : This value specifies the X and Y (square) dimension of the hammer tip grid.

When new preferences are entered, VS3D/VScad3 must be restarted for the new preferences to take effect. Preferences are saved to the file "vs3d_pref.txt" in the "DES_COM\VS3D10\reg" folder.

"Restore Defaults": VS3D saves (remembers) all of the various settings. When VS3D is started, all of those settings are loaded from the saved settings file (if it exsts). If the settings file does not exist, all of the basic default values are used. This function deletes the settings file ("DES_COM\VS3D20\reg\vs3d_settings.sav") and the preferences file ("DES_COM\VS3D20\reg\vs3d_pref.txt"). The basic defaults will take effect the next time VS3D is started.

"File / Quit" : This will, of course, quit VS3D. If VScad3 is currently running, then it is not affected by quitting VS3D (except that additional system memory may possibly be freed up for use by VScad3). If the current sculpture grid and/or region has been modified since the last time it was saved or loaded, then VS3D will prompt to save the sculpture before exiting.
