VS3D File Menu

1.1.7 Starting CAD Geometry Builder (VScad3).

"File / CAD Geometry Builder => Start..." : This will start VScad3 if it is not already running. The size of the main VScad3 view window, in pixels, will match the size of the current VS3D window (in pixels). In addition, the VScad3 "Page Size" and "Workspace Region" will match the current VS3D data coordinate scales. See the VScad3 documentation for details on the Page Size and Workspace Region. If VScad3 is already running when this menu is selected, then the VScad3 window is simply popped in front of all other windows on the screen.

"File / CAD Geometry Builder => Export to..." : This is the same as the "File / CAD Geometry Builder => Start..." function, except that the current sculpture surface is exported to VScad3.

The "Export Triangles" dialog appears. This dialog has three settings:

  • "Output Area": Output the entire surface or only the parts within the current region.

  • "Volume Mode": Set to "Surface Only" to output just the top surface. Set to "Fully-Enclosed with Skirt" to specify a filly-enclosed volume with a flat bottom and sides.

  • "Minimum Skirt Thickness": Enter the positive Z value for the minimum thickness of the skirt. This setting only has affect when "Fully-Enclosed with Skirt" mode is set. The flat bottom of the enclosed volume will be located at this thickness below the lowest point on the surface

If VScad3 is already running, then the exported surface is added to the current CAD model (if any). In this case, it may be necessary to adjust the VScad3 Workspace Region to be able to see the newly-exported surface.
